Our Story

New Zealand's longest established business brokerage. Selling businesses since 1973.

In an age of automation and digital everything, we remain proudly old-fashioned in one important way: we are a people business. We meet face to face wherever possible. We sit across the table from our clients, we listen, and we work hard to understand what they truly need.

The moment we love most in this work is matching a buyer with the right business — and watching them succeed. That is why we do this. We are in this for the long haul. Honesty and integrity are more than words to us — they are the foundation on which this company was built.

We work with sellers and buyers from all walks of life — across every business type and size. Every client receives the same commitment, the same care, and the same frank advice.

Where it all began

In 1962, a man named Clyth MacLeod sold a Four Square grocery store in Ōtāhuhu. A humble beginning for a very humble man.

Eleven years later in 1973, he founded Clyth MacLeod Business Sales. The first sale recorded was the Waimauku Store for $16,000 with our commission of $450. What followed was nearly six decades of devotion to a profession he loved deeply. Today, in our boardroom, Clyth's portrait hangs on the wall. The MacLeod tartan is still on display. And on the shelves sit large handwritten journals recording businesses we have sold since 1973 — thousands of transactions, thousands of stories, thousands of lives changed.

Our Founder's Legacy

Clyth MacLeod became known across New Zealand, Australia and the USA as the Guru of business sales. He earned Life Memberships of both the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand and the International Business Brokers Association — among the rarest honours in the industry.

But what made Clyth truly extraordinary was not his accolades. It was his generosity. He shared his knowledge freely and joyfully — with clients, buyers, fellow brokers and industry groups around the world. He believed business should be simple, and that it should be fun. He loved people of all backgrounds and was deeply proud of New Zealand's diverse culture.

Clyth passed away having left an indelible mark on an entire profession. His legacy lives on in the values of this company, in the team he shaped, and in every business we sell.

"You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so... get on your way!" — Dr Seuss, a favourite of Clyth MacLeod

Carrying it forward

Glorianne Campbell, Managing Director joined Clyth MacLeod Business Sales in 1995. She worked alongside Clyth for over two decades — first as a broker, then in management — before taking ownership of the company in 2018. Her journey mirrors her relationship with the founder: built on trust, shaped by mentorship, guided by an unwavering commitment to honesty.

In 2019, Glorianne expanded the business through the strategic acquisition of Company Sales & Acquisitions — a firm with an unblemished record dating back to 1989, founded on the same values of discretion, professionalism and excellence. The merger brought two great legacies together under one roof.

Glorianne is a Certified Business Intermediary and a Fellow of both the International Business Brokers Association and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand. She has served as President of the REINZ Auckland District, Chairperson of the Australian Institute of Business Brokers, and a member of the REA Industry Advisors Group. Like Clyth, she believes knowledge belongs to everyone — and shares it willingly.

"Clyth has set the bar high for our team and I, like Clyth, remain steadfastly committed to specialising in the sale of businesses — willingly sharing my knowledge and practising honesty and sound ethics in all dealings, at all times." — Glorianne Campbell, Managing Director
